The Itafos Foundation believes that the success of its projects depends on a lasting partnership with local communities. Our ambition is to care for the populations where Itafos operates and ensure that the projects leave a legacy that Itafos and its shareholders can be proud of, based on the aspirations of our communities.
The Foundation was created in Guinea-Bissau under the country’s regulations for non-profit organizations and headquartered in Bissau city center. The Itafos Foundation’s oversight mechanisms include an independent supervisory board comprising retired international diplomats and senior civil servants who will inspect and report on the implementation of the organization’s projects.
The Foundation is particularly dedicated to issues related to health, education and culture. Accordingly, the Foundation has already partnered with key international organizations including the United Nations, as well as the non-profit foundations of some of Africa’s leading corporations such as MTN and Ecobank.
The Foundation operates an education and outreach programme in close collaboration with local and state governments, holding information sessions in schools, village assemblies, town halls, with community groups and through media outlets.
